this article is to present my advisor Mr. Heng Bangkok who give nokkhao.com many good info and he showed us many of his local wisdom derievd from his father. heng is a a very talented person in a vocal zebra dove world of thailand. he became a pro when he was young and stands in the front row among other talented person in a high competition environment. here's some details about his work and ways to find good bird for competition. heng personally not talkative and doesn't want this to be so commercially. it's a webmaster purpose to have this article to add colour on my site at least for a fun reading.
nokkhao.com : high end birds are very in demand . do u think it's hard to find a high end-birds for competition?
heng bangkok : of course, i can say that there has a rare chance to get good birds from breeding . most of farms in the south of thailand can produce just 5-10 percent good birds and very few birds from this 5-10% can have high-end quality . each year, what i've heard it's less than ten birds that comes with such quality . most of good bird firstly found by local enthusiast or farm owner. these birds are reserved for enthusiast from bangkok and neighboring country to offer them a good price. good birds may discovered by malaysian and singaporian and bought to thier country, from my experience most of these birds are reserved to send to competition in thailand.
nokkhao.com : what's the environment while u r in serching for a high-end birds?
heng bangkok : i go to the south of thailand occasionally to send birds to competition, buy some bird for farm and search for some new bird. each trip would take about 1-2 weeks in the south . i like to visit farms, competition field , small village and to my friend's house to mornitor good birds. every method can help me spot good birds and every places may have precious bird there. mainly i stay in bangkok but will move to the south of thailand the time around big competition like Asean Competition Yala (in march) or Princess Thepruttana cup HaadYai(in ). during this time i like to stay about a week before comp and stay after the comp finished for about a week. i can have time to find some new bird this period.
nokkhao.com : when u found a good bird , are they outstanding from others? and what are processes in choosing good bird?
heng bangkok : i often heard the news about some birds which have a high performance . there can be a news from people or a word of mouth from my freind about good birds here and there. i must go to mornitor them myself , take time to listen to thier voice and consider some factor before making dicision.
about process in choosing good bird i would use my own observation like mornitoring thier voice in different time including morning , late afternoon for instance . this can help me to know the voice of it changing when the time passed. i must choose good voice bird that can send to comp for long time too. checking bloodline profile and some breed history can help . with these process would take about 5 days and i will be sure to buy some bird.
nokkhao.com : are A Class bird hard to find more than other class birds? and what's the most difficult thing in serching for good birds?
heng bangkok : yes A Class birds are difficult to produce . many of them cannot sing with a full display coo(tekan) also a bird with beatiful melody(lagu) are hard to find too. a good bird must sing with full tekan and the voice must not defect . most difficult thing would be a price of it. my customer want a reasonable price but the bird farm would like to sell at best price. As a trader who stands between these two parties is diffcult....sometimes prices are vary upon the person who buy it too. for me i can have some discount from farm because we trade like friendship.
nokkhao.com : how about young bird purchase? are there any differences compare to mature birds ?
heng bangkok : buy young bird is quite a risky because there no sure about it even a pro can waste money on this. to be sure i suggest u to buy birds which are older than 6 months or when the bird on mature age so there can be no change to thier singing performance. to buy young birds is safer your pocket but u need to study a lot . i give u some tips to know
- if one young bird show very good voice but it's from unknown parents the risk would be 50% - 50 %
- if one young bird show very good voice and it's from very good parents, the risk would be 60% - 40% . this case the price should be high.
- if one young bird show very good voice with a few month older (but less than 6 month) and the bird is from very good parent , the risk would be 70% - 30%. this case the price should be higher.
to mornitor young birds u need to listen to it in different time to check some voice defection.
nokkhao.com : u've been searching good birds for quite sometimes , many birds can win good price. which of these good bird u pround of the most?
heng bangkok : it would be A Class bird that won 1st price Asean Vocal Zebra Dove Competition. this bird own by mr. Akadik and i found it from a small farm of one villager who bred good bloodline parent birds from Pattani. i found when it's 7 month old and he sometimes sung with no good endings. i moved him to bangkok and give trainings and miantenace. when he reach 10 month he won very big price like Asean and Royal cup in Sadao . also the C Class bird that used to won 1st price C Class Lubok Jong Competition Malaysia is a very good bird with 5-6 steps
nokkhao.com : well it's just a story from heng bangkok who now recons as the most successful young person here in thailand . u may find him training good birds in some competition field for a big comp both in the south and bangkok. when u see him pls do not hesitate to say hi .
