Spotted Dove Cage

1. Single cage - a single cage for competition is suit for one dove only. Size 16.0-16.5 inches is very popular. It has two shapes that Thai people like to use, the shape like a drum or a tube and other type in oval shape.

A spoke are usually made of bamboo so it can resist an insect or woodworm. A spoke which is made of rattan are strong and last, some spoke made of vines but not look good like rattan.

A perch should be a reasonable size to spotted dove feet to grab. A triple edges perch is a typical accessory for this type of cage; it's good for dove to change their position. Some perch are crafted in rough texture as dove can grab firmly. It usually made of solid wood or root of solid wood.

In a single cage breeder should place 4 containers for cereals, water, grits and minerals.

To keep bird chilled and not beware surroundings, breeder should provide 2 types of curtain. First is an inner curtain made of thin cloth to prevent dove from fear of surroundings but can see other dove on competition. The second curtain made of thick cloth, this one can seal cage and keep bird chilled and not fear from traveling.

2. A flight - breeder should provide a large cage or aviary for dove while they are not on competition. Do not keep dove in a single cage all the time. A flight is necessary for juvenile bird / older bird and or dove on a break from competition. Those dove need a large flight, they can exercise and use their muscle to fly and practice for a good health and can maintain good voice.

A fight should be built in a large size depend on area that you have. Provide some perches and enough space for flying. It’s beneficial for dove to use its wings fully. The floor of the flight should be made of wood or bared soil. Zebra Doves and Spotted Doves are ground birds and thus often walk or sit on the cage floor. A good flight/aviary should be made of double wire and away from pest, mice and cats that can play havoc with dove and run riot. There’s no fixed schedule in keeping dove in aviary or flight, breeder should transfer dove to flight often and not keep dove in single cage all the time.
