Dove Cage

Zebra Dove Cage

1. Single cage - a single cage use to keep dove for competition, it has few size as follow,

Large - 15.5-16.0 inches diameter with 19-20 inches high. This type suit for older dove. It has more space as its large size nice for dove and has more space. But sometimes it's difficult to put on training pole. Cages of this size are also difficult to transport in motor vehicles.

Medium - 14-14.5 inches diameter with 17.5-18.5 inches high, a regular size cage suit for travel and easy to use on training pole.

Small - 12-13 inches diameter with 15-16 inches high, a smallest size of single cage suit for new bird which is not tamed and not much space for dove to go berserk.

A cage spoke - a good cage need to have a small spoke and each of it place neatly with equal space. This can prevent the dove tuck their head out and keep down mice insects and bird of prey attacking.

Perches - a good perch have to be in a reasonable size for bird to perch. A single perch with bold on its middle and smaller on both tips help dove feet to constantly adjust their grip on the perch to avoid crampy sore feet. Also a good perch should be crafted in a rough texture. A good position for perch needed to be installed in the same height as food/water container which is positioned so the birds can reach it from one of the perches. This can save time for them to call/coo comfortably. Avoid installing perch over food/water container and container should covered by a contamination shield which prevents droppings from falling in the water. A perch should be a suitable size to the size of cage so dove can move easily and their tail not damage cased from spokes. In the cage should place 4 containers for water, cereals, grits and minerals

Shed required for single cage too, a cage curtain is use to give a shed and opened for air and light. Each of curtain's edge need to have crystal hanging on it. This crystal use to chase bird of prey away as it fear of sparkling light from crystals. On inner top of cage must have a cloth to prevent dove head knocking to it when dove go berserk. A good cage has to be in a reasonable weight and not shaking when we put on a high pole. A single cage usually built with the door on bottom. To enable the dove not escapes while you opening the door.

2. A flight - breeder should provide a large cage or aviary for dove while they are not on competition. Do not keep dove in a single cage all the time. A flight is necessary for juvenile bird / older bird and or dove on a break from competition. Those dove need a large flight, they can exercise and use their muscle to fly and practice for a good health and can maintain good voice.

A fight should be built in a large size depend on area that you have. Provide some perches and enough space for flying. It’s beneficial for dove to use its wings fully. The floor of the flight should be made of wood or bared soil. Zebra Doves and Spotted Doves are ground birds and thus often walk or sit on the cage floor. A good flight/aviary should be made of double wire and away from pest, mice and cats that can play havoc with dove and run riot. There’s no fixed schedule in keeping dove in aviary or flight, breeder should transfer dove to flight often and not keep dove in single cage all the time.
